Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL)

Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL) assists Albertans with a long-term disability, chronic illness or terminal illness, in maintaining independence in their community. AADL provides funding for basic medical equipment and supplies to meet clinically assessed needs.
Funding is provided for those aged four or older with moderate to severe, unresolvable daily urinary and/or bowel incontinence (medically recognized as unresolvable by the appropriate clinician).

To be eligible for funding, clients must first be clinically assessed by an AADL authorizer.

AADL offers three categories of coverage for intermittent catheters:

  • M326   Intermittent catheters - pre-lubricated / hydrophilic

  • M328   Intermittent catheters - plastic

  • M381   Intermittent catheters - plastic / coudé tip

Auto Insurance

If you sustained a catastrophic injury due to an auto accident, you may qualify for catheter coverage.

Settlements / lump sum payouts can take many years. During that time, the insurance company covers catheters as recommended by the physician and is dependent on individual adjustor approval. Client usually gets a report at time of settlement itemizing products and services currently being covered and their associated annual costs -  it is up to client to manage settlement amount and associated expenses for their lifetime. Insurance company is no longer involved after client settles.
