Provincial Programs

Manitoba Ostomy Program

The Manitoba Ostomy Program covers and distributes ostomy supplies for eligible Manitobans. This program is administered through the Manitoba Department of Health.

  • Manitoba Ostomy Program provides 100% coverage for most ostomy care products for all Manitoba residents living in their own residence.

  • Items that are not covered include specialty items such as deodorizers, hernia support binders and specialty undergarments.

  • There is no user fee or co-payment.

  • The supplies are ordered by the individual and distributed through a central warehouse in Winnipeg.  Winnipeg residents may pick up supplies at the Health Sciences Centre Materials Handling Building. 

  • Rural residents will receive orders via Canada Post.

  • Items that are not registered with the Manitoba Ostomy Program may be purchased outside of the program with no financial assistance.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for the Manitoba Ostomy Program, one must:

  • Be a resident of Manitoba, living with an ostomy, wound or fistula which requires pouching, and
  • Have an active nine-digit Personal Health Identification Number (PHIN) for coverage through Manitoba Health.

Disability and Health Support Unit

Individuals receiving support from Employment and Income Assistance Program, the Children’s disABILITY Services Program and Community Living disABILITY Services Program may be eligible for additional financial help with costs for health-related supplies not provided by other programs. Requests for these items are reviewed by the Disability and Health Supports Unit. Requests must be submitted by health professionals on behalf of recipients.

Municipal Programs

Some municipalities offer their own health support programs or supporting services. Check with your local municipality to see if there are any additional support available to you.
